Brave was aiiiiight

I don’t think it deserves the so much hate/dislike it gets (mainly for getting the Oscar), but at the same time I think there’s a lot of things that needed some tweeking, story and pacing wise (I still don’t think it’s Oscar worthy).

I don’t think Merida’s an unlikable brat at all (she’s [maybe?] not nearly as selfish as Woody from the first Toy Story film, and yet people seem to be more vocal against her than him? lol just rewatch TS again and you’ll see what I mean), but the movie did a slightly less than-stellar-job of establishing her less-than-perfect relationship between her and Elinor(the mom). I suppose it just needed so, so much more focus on them than anything else, which… it already does, but not? Like, the concept IS THERE but it’s not looking at it and studying at it from the right angle?

Honestly though, this is a very patched-worked film with a muddy execution. There’s bits and pieces of a previous versions of the film here and there in the background (Mor’du, the curse, the witch, the wisps) that’s still there because you NEED them to set up and push the main story (the mother-daughter relationship, rebelling against establishment with responsibility( wow I can’t en recall the point of the film without looking online?)). For some reason though, they just feel… like beta elements.

And that’s what’s been bothering me a lot about this film; I feels like a work in progress, and really, it probably still is. If I’m hearing and reading things correctly, Brenda Chapman was kicked off as the main director about 18 months before the films release… which explains the overall directionlessness of the film. (Thanks for pushing for “not alienating the boyz” again, Disney. You did the same shit to Tangled too. Stop it).

IDK what to really think about the movie still. I Like it, for sure (you can really see a lot of Steve Purcel’s art style in this), but it feels very off, storywise.

Maybe I’ll type something up again when I rewatch it months later. IDK.

Thanks to this well thought out and researched news report we can conclude that Tortimer as well as other adults who play Animal Crossing are in fact all pedophiles.
